About us

Objectives

The objectives of the Japan-Netherlands Society (JNS) shall be to contribute toward the promotion of the mutual introduction and understanding of subjects related to, and the culture of, the Netherlands and Japan, and the promotion of amity and friendly relations between the people of both nations.

History

The JNS was founded in 1912 with Earl Shigenobu Okuma serving as the society’s first President. After the adjournment of the society during World War II, the JNS was reestablished in 1954 and has striven to achieve its objectives to the present day.

1968 Akira Miyazaki (Former Ambassador) appointed as President.
1969 Yoshiya Ariyoshi (Chairman, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha) appointed as President.
1984 Yoshiaki Irobe (Chairman, Kyowa Bank Ltd.) appointed as President.
1988 Yutaka Kume (President, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.) appointed as President.
1998 Minoru Ohnishi (Chairman, Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.) appointed as President.
Establishment of De Liefde Club as a division of the JNS
2000 H.I.H. Prince Akishino becomes Honorary Patron of the JNS.

2004 JNS 50th Anniversary
2005 Shigetaka Komori (President, Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.) appointed as President.
2008 De Liefde Club 10th Anniversary
2014 JNS 60th Anniversary
2018 De Liefde Club 20th Anniversary
2022 Teiichi Goto (President, FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation ) appointed as President.
2024 JNS 70th Anniversary

Activities

In carrying out its activities, the JNS owes much to the generous support provided by His Imperial Highness Prince Akishino and successive Ambassadors of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Japan. The JNS conducts various activities to promote Dutch-Japanese cultural exchanges as well as the interaction between its members. In collaboration with other Netherlands-related organizations, the JNS is committed to further promoting and developing the excellent relationship between the Netherlands and Japan.

Events: General Meeting, Lecture, Day trip, New Year’s Party, Christmas Party etc.
